We are delighted to be able to announce that we at BEST WESTERN Abbots Barton Hotel have taken Porchlight on board as our nominated Charity of the Year.

Porchlight is one of Kent and Medway's foremost charities, supporting around 1,200 vulnerable and homeless people at any one time. We have supported accommodation services in Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Margate, Ramsgate and Tonbridge, a homelessness prevention service, a dedicated rough sleeper team and a service supporting adolescents aged 10-18. We provide a range of services supporting people with complex needs, with specialist services for young people, ex-offenders and people with enduring mental health issues. In Canterbury alone we provide accommodation for over 100 people.

Homelessness can happen to anyone, at any time and for a variety of different reasons. The people we help tell us that being forced to sleep rough, facing the threat of eviction or living in poor conditions is frightening, degrading and soul destroying.

Porchlight works to change the lives and negative attitudes faced by vulnerable people with housing issues. Our services are at the heart of the community, providing people with the stable base, skills and confidence they need to live independently and become included in society. We believe that everyone has a right to a safe and secure home.

Jane Redman, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Porchlight said: “We are delighted to have the support of such a prominent local business and we are looking forward to working with BEST WESTERN Abbots Barton Hotel in 2013. Fundraising and events will not only directly benefit people who are homeless or vulnerably housed but also help to raise awareness about homelessness issues locally.”
