The Canterbury Tales

Roman Museam

Twentieth century rebuilding in the city has unearthed some fascinating remains from Durovernum Cantiacorum, the name given to Canterbury by the Romans.  The Roman Museum is an innovative underground exhibition built around the remains of a Roman town house, with beautiful mosaics.  The displays include reconstructions of Roman buildings, interactive computer displays, a gallery of archeological finds and a highly acclaimed 'hands-on' area, where visitors are encouraged to pick up and feel genuine artefacts.

 

Howletts Wild Animal Park

Just a few minutes drive or short taxi ride from the Abbots Barton Hotel.  Largest colony of gorillas in human care in the world, tigers, elephants and their young, wolves monkeys and more.  Set in 70 acres of natural parkland - much more than just a zoo!
